NOLA Public Schools Recommends Closure of All Orleans Parish Public Schools Thursday, June 18, Due to Tropical Storm Arthur

Flash Flooding and Hazardous Travel Conditions Prompt Districtwide Closure Recommendation; All Summer Programming Affected

(New Orleans – June 18, 2026) — NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is recommending the closure of all Orleans Parish public schools and district summer programs for Thursday, June 18, due to the continued impacts of Tropical Storm Arthur. The recommendation includes Extended School Year (ESY) programming, summer learning opportunities, and extracurricular camps.

The recommendation is being made out of an abundance of caution as weather forecasts continue to indicate the potential for significant rainfall across the region. The primary concern is the threat of flash flooding and hazardous travel conditions that could affect the safe transportation of students, families, and staff. While severe wind impacts are expected, the most significant additional risk is associated with heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and rapidly changing road conditions throughout Orleans Parish and surrounding areas.

NOLA Public Schools encourages all charter management organizations that have not yet done so to promptly notify their school communities, including families, students, and staff, of any closures, cancellations, or schedule adjustments resulting from the storm.

NOLA Public Schools will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and provide updates as additional information becomes available. The safety and well-being of students, educators, and school communities remain the district's highest priority.
